A major milestone — the installation of our marble countertops! — was achieved last week, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. The stone is brimming with character, and its natural veining pairs beautifully with the warm-white cabinetry. We also requested that the fabricator “enhance” the stone with a specific sealant, which further brightened its pattern and coloring. Yes, etching and staining will happen, but patina is a welcomed sight in this house. There truly is no replacement for the beauty of natural stone.

A few additional tasks were checked off the list in recent weeks, too. The plumber connected the water lines in our basement, so the faucet is ready to be installed. The painter patched and chalked the trimwork yesterday, and is currently painting the walls with their final coat. Next week is rather quiet, but the following week brings additional milestones, namely the installation of the marble backsplash. The plumber and electricians will wrap up their work soon thereafter, and then we’ll depart for Palm Springs, in hopes of gaining a heavy dose of Vitamin D. Our floors will be stripped, sanded, and refinished while we’re away, and the appliances will be installed the following week. We’ll likely have a fully-functioning kitchen by Valentine’s Day, which almost seems too good to be true. Stay tuned for the final project reveal!
