Transitions to abstract painting explored in Palecek CAM exhibition
Cedarburg – Unclenched Explorations is an exhibition of oil paintings by award-winning and nationally-recognized Wisconsin artist D.K. Palecek. In this show, the artist presents eight subjects, each that has been painted three times, each time delving further to unclench the physical reference and to reach the sublime. She explores mood and design through color, shapes, and brushwork and releases the formal rules and guidelines of representational plein air painting.
Palecek explains her road to abstraction: “When I look at a scene I don’t see objects, I see shapes. It took a long time to ‘see’ this way. Then it’s a decision process of breaking the shapes down into smaller shapes that provide just enough information to imply the object. The challenge is not to provide too much information. The challenge is to provide just enough information to imply the scene, allowing the viewer to imagine.”
Palecek’s exhibition of explorations toward abstraction is on view at the Museum at W63 N675 Washington Avenue through July 7. Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm, and Sunday, noon to 4pm. For more information, go to www.cedarburgartmuseum.org, call 262-377-6123, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
